Russia Unveils AI-Powered “Smart” Machine for Railway Repairs

The A650 Robot, Built 90% from Domestic Components, Combines High-Tech Automation with Eco-Efficiency

At the “Made in Russia” forum, engineers from Profi Group, a company based in Kirov, unveiled the A650, a next-generation robotic machine designed for autonomous railway maintenance. The system performs track tamping, alignment, and leveling without human operators, using artificial intelligence to analyze rail conditions and optimize its work in real time.

Capable of moving both on rails and off-road, the A650 attracted attention for its blend of advanced technology and environmental efficiency. It’s 90% built from Russian components, making it a milestone in the country’s push for industrial self-sufficiency.

Global Interest in a Domestic Innovation

Experts say the A650 demonstrates how Russia’s engineering sector is evolving toward digital transformation while strengthening the nation’s technological independence. The project supports the national initiative on “Industrial Support for Transport Mobility.”

Foreign representatives at the forum also expressed interest in the machine, noting the high technical standards and innovation of Russia’s engineering schools.

The A650 stands as a symbol of the future of transport infrastructure — showing how AI and domestic manufacturing can merge to deliver safer, smarter, and more sustainable solutions, while raising the profile of Russian industry on the global stage.
