Guarding the Skies: Russia’s ‘Nebosvod’ Platform Successfully Passes Drone Air Traffic Tests

Russia’s Kalashnikov Concern successfully tested its SCAT 350M unmanned aerial vehicle using the Nebosvod digital air traffic management platform, developed by the research center Aeroscript. The test demonstrated flawless, reliable transmission of all key flight parameters — marking a breakthrough in unmanned aviation safety and coordination.

Ensuring Safe and Conflict-Free Skies

The latest phase of testing marked the second stage of trials for Nebosvod, Russia’s remote drone identification and management system. The testing was conducted by a working group under the State Air Traffic Management Corporation on behalf of Rosaviatsiya (the Federal Air Transport Agency).

The results confirmed that Nebosvod can simultaneously manage thousands of connected drones without communication errors. As Russia’s first full-scale UTM (Unmanned Traffic Management) platform, Nebosvod integrates navigation, meteorological, and geospatial data to ensure operational safety and network resilience. Developed by Aeroscript, Nebosvod is a distributed cloud-based solution designed to prevent mid-air collisions and protect communication channels from cyberattacks.

The platform can be used by regulators, air navigation providers, city air traffic operators, and companies managing drone fleets.

During the test, the SCAT 350M drone from Kalashnikov transmitted flight parameters in real time, confirming high data accuracy and platform reliability — a key milestone before nationwide deployment.

All flight data is stored throughout its entire lifecycle. According to Aeroscript, the platform will streamline urban air mobility by automating flight approval processes and reducing coordination time. It also strengthens cybersecurity by ensuring encrypted communications between drones and control centers.

The system’s modular design allows integration into corporate environments of any scale. As drone traffic increases to hundreds or even thousands of units, Nebosvod’s predictive conflict resolution algorithms will become essential to prevent mid-air incidents, whether vertical, lateral, or mixed in nature.

From Testing to Real Deployment

The successful trials mark a significant step toward industrial deployment and full integration of Russian drones into national airspace. The testing confirmed compliance with data transmission and remote identification standards.
