Robotic Vineyard Platform Developed in Crimea Operates Without Satellite Navigation

The prototype is designed to function even in areas where satellite navigation is completely unavailable.

Researchers at the Crimean Engineering and Pedagogical University have developed a prototype robotic platform for spraying vineyards. One of its key advantages is the ability to operate without any satellite navigation. Instead, the AI system relies on preloaded data to carry out its tasks.

Multiple robotic platforms can be deployed simultaneously to spray vineyards. The machines move sequentially between vine rows until they complete treatment of the designated area.

The researchers say the technology is likely to be in strong demand. Vineyard spraying must typically be completed within a window of about one week, while growers continue to face significant labor shortages. Robotic platforms could therefore become one of the most effective ways to address the problem.
