Russia Advances Concrete Safety Tech at Nuclear Sites

New AI and sensor-based monitoring tools are being integrated into Russia’s nuclear construction sector to improve the quality and resilience of concrete infrastructure.

At a recent meeting of the Technical Policy Committee of the Association of Nuclear Industry Builders, Russian experts unveiled cutting-edge solutions for quality assessment of reinforced concrete used at Rosatom sites. According to the industry outlet Atomnaya Energiya, several of these technologies are already recommended for implementation.

Among the innovations is PropTech.SMC, a real-time online monitoring system for assessing concrete strength. The committee also proposed the use of artificial intelligence and machine vision to detect surface defects automatically. Other advancements include seismic-acoustic methods for non-destructive testing and tools to analyze the rheological properties of concrete mixtures. Additionally, new regulatory standards are being proposed for operating steel structures in aggressive environments.

These technologies are designed to enhance the safety and longevity of nuclear energy infrastructure. The committee’s recommendations will be reviewed by Rosatom’s division responsible for construction and decommissioning of nuclear facilities.

By adopting these tools, Russia is reinforcing its leadership in innovative construction technologies for critical infrastructure.
