Welcome to Digitalstan: How Tatarstan Is Pioneering AI in Classrooms

Tatarstan’s education system is undergoing a major digital transformation, using AI tools to improve classroom engagement and streamline administration.
Building Digital Literacy from the Ground Up
Tatarstan is among Russia’s top 10 regions leading in artificial intelligence adoption. In recent years, the republic has actively invested in building a digital education ecosystem, combining technical readiness with systemic modernization. A major milestone was achieved through the federal program 'Digital Economy of Russia,' which provided all schools with high-speed internet — at least 100 Mbps in urban areas and 50 Mbps in rural ones — laying a stable foundation for educational platforms.
Since 2024, all schools in the region have adopted a federal system based on the Moscow Electronic School. The new system introduced electronic gradebooks and diaries, streamlining communication among parents, students, and teachers, while automating administrative tasks.

According to the Ministry of Education and Science of Tatarstan, digital tools are enhancing student engagement. 'Children now dive deeper into topics. Content is delivered in accessible and exciting formats. Multimedia, games, and simulations make learning more appealing and allow students to independently explore, analyze, and structure information,' the press service noted.
Laying the Foundations for AI-Enhanced Classrooms
A major priority in Tatarstan is integrating artificial intelligence into the learning process. The 'GosPrompt' platform, designed for computer science teachers, features an AI assistant that helps prepare materials, assess assignments, and track academic performance. Already, 32 percent of educators use the platform daily.

The creation of a unified IT environment — covering both infrastructure and software — shows that Russian regions are capable of developing and even exporting proprietary solutions. Platforms like 'GosPrompt' and 'I’m a Student' are attracting attention beyond Tatarstan and may soon find demand across Russia and in other countries expanding their digital education sectors.
To scale this effort, authorities plan to continue improving digital literacy among teachers, particularly senior staff. In the coming years, the region aims to expand professional development programs and launch pilot projects involving AI-powered instructors in selected schools.
Surging Demand for EdTech Solutions
Students and teachers are increasingly turning to multimedia textbooks, online courses, and interactive simulations. In just five years, Tatarstan has progressed from building digital infrastructure to implementing AI-driven education technologies.
Following the rollout of fiber-optic internet in schools, the launch of the 'I’m a Student' platform marked a pivotal step in reshaping the learning experience. The platform unified various educational tools in a single app and enhanced personalized student support.

That same year saw growth in IT parks in Kazan and Naberezhnye Chelny, enabling the development and recruitment of high-level talent in the IT sector.
In 2023, the republic initiated trial AI teaching programs in collaboration with MIPT and Skolkovo. The pilot results were clear: AI use significantly improved students’ retention of concepts and terminology. At the same time, Kazan’s IT park began offering coding courses for schoolchildren, helping them build early IT fluency.
Tatarstan’s digital education strategy is methodical and systemic, addressing infrastructure, platform ecosystems, and human resources. Crucially, the region emphasizes not replacing teachers with AI but empowering them through technology.
