InfoWatch Speeds Up the Search for Confidential Data in Text

InfoWatch Group has added its proprietary technology for automated text search to its Traffic Monitor data loss prevention (DLP) system.

The solution identifies confidential data more quickly and reduces false negatives. The technology is registered with Russia’s Federal Service for Intellectual Property (Rospatent) as an invention titled “Method for Automated Text Search Using a Transition Graph and an Occupancy Map.”

Searching for marker phrases through exact matching is inefficient and requires extensive configuration. The new method can locate the words that make up a term regardless of the distance between them. Neither the number of words nor the distance between them is limited, and each word can appear only once. The search is faster, covers more possible combinations, and requires fewer computing resources.

“The new technology allows linguists to identify hidden connections in documents that were previously virtually impossible to detect automatically. The patented technology is already in active use, helping reduce false positives and improve the accuracy of identifying actual information security threats,” said Alexander Bobrus, chief technology officer at InfoWatch Group.
