Specialists at the Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Center have performed Russia's first robot-assisted surgeries to remove thyroid cancer. The procedure was carried out through an axillary approach, which made it possible to avoid a visible scar on the neck.

The robotic system provided 3D visualization of anatomical structures, including nerves and blood vessels. This enables doctors to perform more precise manipulations and reduces the risk of accidental injury.

"Thyroid surgeries require particular precision, since the surgeon works near vital structures. The modern robotic system provides three-dimensional visualization and high instrument maneuverability, which significantly expands the surgeon's capabilities when performing delicate manipulations," emphasized Vyacheslav Polkin, head of the Head and Neck Tumor Department at the Tsyb Medical Radiological Research Center.

The first operations were performed on two women with cancer diagnoses. They lasted two hours. The patients are currently in satisfactory condition and are preparing for discharge.
