Russian Mining Giant Wins Award for Digital Eco-Tech Innovations

Norilsk Nickel’s AI-powered emissions monitoring system shows how digital solutions are reshaping environmental standards in heavy industry.

The organizers of the 5th National "Ecotech Leader" Awards have named the winners for 2025, recognizing 37 companies advancing green innovation in Russian industry. Among them is Norilsk Nickel, honored in the category "Digital Solutions for Ecology" for its cutting-edge AXIOMA PEMS system.

AXIOMA PEMS is a predictive emissions monitoring platform that creates digital twins of industrial processes to model harmful emissions in real time. By analyzing production parameters, weather conditions, and terrain data, the system forecasts emissions spread up to 24 hours ahead. According to Taimyr Telegraph, this allows industrial sites to reduce capital costs for monitoring by up to 50% and operating costs by as much as 80%.

The technology is designed for metallurgy, oil and gas, energy, and chemical industries, with future upgrades expected to include a virtual assistant for process engineers and carbon footprint calculation capabilities.

Norilsk Nickel also received recognition for building the first automated air quality control system in the Arctic region. Both projects aim to minimize environmental impact and improve quality of life in industrial cities.

The deployment of such digital tools reflects a growing trend in Russian heavy industry: combining cost efficiency with environmental responsibility, aligning with global sustainability goals.
