Security service of Russia’s MAX messenger helps detain dozens of fraudsters

The national messaging platform works with cybersecurity teams to protect users’ savings.

Experts from the security center of Russia’s MAX messenger, working together with law enforcement units, have helped detain 40 fraudsters who were attempting to steal from users, the company’s press service said.

In cooperation with leading cybersecurity firms, the MAX team has also blocked more than 700,000 suspicious accounts and removed over one million malicious files.

Millions kept in accounts

More than 100 users, after receiving alerts from MAX, avoided falling victim to scams. Anti-fraud cooperation with Sber helped keep more than 300 million rubles (about $3.6 million) in customers’ bank accounts – funds that were close to being stolen by criminals.

The security center is a dedicated MAX unit that monitors and disrupts fraudulent activity online. User reports are reviewed on an ongoing basis, both manually and with the help of digital tools. Russians have reported suspicious accounts and incidents to MAX more than 600,000 times.

MAX positions itself as a universal digital platform in Russia, combining messaging services with access to government services.
