Russia’s state space corporation plans to launch satellites between 2027 and 2029 to provide internet access for mobile phone users, according to Gennady Erokhin, chief designer for automated systems and complexes.

The first test satellites are scheduled to be launched in 2027. After completing all validation phases, the project will move toward building a full-scale network. The system is expected to provide smartphone users with internet access from anywhere in Russia.

The deployment of the orbital constellation will be carried out in close cooperation between the state corporation and private companies. Particular focus will be placed on reducing data transmission latency and ensuring reliable high-speed connectivity using low Earth orbit satellites. The network is also planned to have global coverage, meaning Russian users will be able to stay connected even when traveling abroad.
