Russian AI Service Cuts Data Storage Costs Threefold

The Russian company OBIT has created an artificial intelligence–powered compression service for Rosseti Siberia, helping the utility slash storage expenses by a factor of three while avoiding costly hardware upgrades.

Engineers developed a tool that operates entirely within the client’s infrastructure perimeter. The service requires no internet connection, is compatible with domestic Linux-based products, and integrates seamlessly with the company’s information systems through an open API. The solution can also be scaled across other business processes.

The system already includes a neural network that processes documents and images, assessing quality, size, and compliance with internal document standards.

The innovation has reduced storage load by 35 percent, eliminated the need for additional equipment purchases, and cut infrastructure storage costs threefold.

The service can also be adapted for other large enterprises, particularly in industries with vast digital archives and high demands for resource optimization.
