Peter the Great St. Petersburg State Transport University is transitioning to domestically developed software. Coursework and project activities will run on Astra Linux, a Russian operating system, according to a statement from Grupa Astra. More than 40 percent of user workstations and server infrastructure have already been migrated.

As Vice Rector for Economics and Digitalization Alexei Kolos said, the move to Russian software helps ensure data security and compliance with current legislation. Staff training is taking place in parallel.

Long-Term Strategy

Mikhail Gellerman, head of operating systems at Grupa Astra, said the university is pursuing a long-term strategy of technological independence.

“Astra Linux provides educational institutions with all the tools they need for secure and efficient operations: certified information protection, compatibility with a wide range of application software, and ease of administration,” Gellerman said.
