Russian First Responders Train in Virtual Reality Using Local Tech

A new VR system developed in Kursk is helping emergency crews safely simulate high-risk scenarios—and it’s already gaining national recognition.

Emergency workers across Russia are now training in virtual reality using a domestically developed system called VR EXPO 360. The innovation comes from a startup team based in the city of Kursk, according to regional government reports.

The project features two core applications. First, VR simulators that teach emergency and industrial response protocols in a controlled, risk-free environment. Second, interactive AR-guided virtual tours that allow users to explore remote Russian territories, cities, outer space, underwater worlds, and cutting-edge industrial facilities.

VR EXPO 360 is designed for use in a variety of sectors. In industry, it enables the simulation of complex operations without endangering workers or equipment. In culture and tourism, it enables immersive storytelling and virtual site visits. In education, it turns lessons into interactive experiences. And in business, it supports product showcases and virtual showrooms.

The platform has already been named a winner in a national competition and will receive funding for further development.
