St. Petersburg Researchers Develop Digital Assistant for Drinking Water Quality
The system analyzes several key operating parameters at once.
Researchers at the Saint Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design and professionals from Vodokanal of St. Petersburg have developed a digital assistant for monitoring drinking water quality. The system runs continuously, comparing data from laboratory sensors with acceptable thresholds. When necessary, it can recommend process adjustments to operators.
The software tracks six key operating parameters at the station supplying water to the city, including the volume and level of water in storage tanks, chemical treatment, filter cleaning and equipment condition.
“Under strict regulatory standards, our model can make sure drinking water meets the required quality levels. It can also save resources, such as treatment chemicals, by optimizing processes,” said Nika Yadykina, a student in the university’s Department of Engineering Chemistry and Industrial Ecology.
