Future Sailors in Tobolsk to Train in Maritime Communications Using New Simulator
A Russian COMM PRO 6000 simulator has been launched at the Tobolsk Fishery Technical School. It simulates the workplace of a maritime distress communications operator and allows students to practice procedures under conditions close to real-life situations.
Nine people can train on one system simultaneously. The simulator reproduces radio communications in the MF, HF and VHF bands, as well as digital selective calling, telephone, telex and satellite communications with shore stations. A separate module is dedicated to search and rescue operations: data on shore stations and rescue operation areas are tracked on an electronic map when a vessel abruptly changes course, while recorded communications are later reviewed during classes.
The simulator is included in the Russian software register and complies with international requirements for seafarer training, including the International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers.
