Students at Don State Technical University are developing a project called Ekosistema agrotekhniki v pole dlya ucheta i monitoringa zerna (Field Agricultural Equipment Ecosystem for Grain Accounting and Monitoring). The platform is designed to track crop movement during harvesting operations, monitor fuel consumption, and assess the condition of agricultural machinery. The hardware-and-software system could see strong demand in the farming sector, which has been seeking alternatives to imported technology platforms.

The system can be installed on agricultural machinery regardless of manufacturer or production year. That allows different types of equipment to be united in a network, where each vehicle functions as an equal node capable of storing, transmitting, and exchanging data over distances of up to 10 kilometers.

One of the system’s main advantages is its ability to function without access to mobile networks or satellite signals. Developers say that capability is especially important given periodic communication restrictions introduced by telecom operators.
