Nehsan Selvaraj: Child Safety in the Digital Environment Requires International Dialogue

Child safety online extends beyond the borders of individual countries, making dialogue among governments, international organizations and the technology industry essential.

Guests from different countries will attend the 2nd Global Digital Forum, which will take place from Oct. 8 to 10 at the Mechta venue in Moscow’s Gorky Park, to discuss how to build technology partnerships and integrate digital solutions into national ecosystems.

Nehsan Selvaraj, president of The Diplomatic Council (TDC) in Malaysia, told IT Russia what he expects from the forum, why child safety in the digital environment matters to him and how cooperation between Malaysia and Russia could develop. He emphasized the importance of the topics being discussed at the forum and noted that lasting cooperation is built on mutual respect, trust and a genuine desire to understand one another.

– My expectations from the Global Digital Forum go beyond participation in a conference. As I attend Global Digital Forum for the second time, I see this visit as an opportunity to strengthen dialogue, develop mutual respect and understanding, and establish meaningful relationships with institutions, policymakers and potential partners from different parts of the world.

As President of The Diplomatic Council, I place particular importance on diplomacy through dialogue and practical cooperation. I look forward to engaging with Russian and international counterparts, exchanging perspectives and identifying areas where our respective institutions can work together. I believe that sustainable partnerships are built upon mutual respect, trust and a genuine willingness to understand one another.

The Forum is also an important opportunity to explore potential cooperation towards the Kuala Lumpur International Diplomacy Forum 2027. We hope to create a platform in Kuala Lumpur that brings together diplomats, government representatives, business leaders, technology experts, academics and young leaders to address emerging global challenges. I would welcome the opportunity to establish relationships at the Global Digital Forum that can develop into constructive partnerships for future international dialogue.

A particularly important area for me is the safety and protection of children in the digital environment. Through my involvement in child protection and child safety initiatives, I have come to appreciate the importance of international cooperation in addressing the opportunities and risks created by rapidly developing digital technologies.

Children increasingly participate in a digital world that transcends national borders. Their safety therefore requires dialogue and cooperation among governments, international organisations, technology stakeholders, civil society and other relevant institutions. I look forward to exchanging experiences and exploring the possibility of future initiatives, including avenues for governmental and institutional dialogue, focused on strengthening child online safety and protection.

I hope that my participation in the Global Digital Forum will contribute to a broader bridge of understanding between Malaysia, Russia and the international community. More importantly, I hope it will mark the beginning of relationships that can develop into concrete cooperation, shared initiatives and continued dialogue in the years ahead.
