Russia Arms School Agriculture Teachers With Digital Skills

As farming in Russia undergoes rapid digital modernization, schools are preparing teachers to pass on new skills in robotics, drones, and data-driven agriculture to the next generation.

Agriculture in Russia is racing toward digital transformation. That shift demands new approaches to education. Today, agricultural subjects are taught not only in universities but in schools too, creating an urgent need for retraining teachers.

The effort is already under way in the Irkutsk region. Teachers there are studying at the A. A. Ezhevsky State Agrarian University, learning the latest in robotics and digital tech. Once back in classrooms, they’ll transfer that knowledge to students, pushing many toward agricultural careers.

The program blends theory with intense hands-on work. Teachers learn to operate drones and geographic information systems. They study new methods of food processing. And much of it happens in the field: at farms, seed companies, cheese makers, and robotic dairy facilities.

Russian schools are also rolling out more agro-classes. In the Irkutsk region alone, four more will soon open alongside those already running.
