Russian-Built Software Is to Optimize Resource Extraction

The tool goes beyond cost modeling, visualizing data and automatically generating reports.

Scientists at Rosneft’s Ufa research institute have developed software called RN-ALFA (Rossiyskaya Neft – ALFA, Russian Oil – ALFA) to model oil and gas production processes, the company said in a statement.

The program calculates multiple field development scenarios and selects the optimal option, taking into account both subsurface conditions and surface infrastructure. It can simultaneously model several technological processes – such as production and gathering – and adjust engineering decisions in real time.

For project teams, the digital tool also plays an organizational role. It brings together scientists from different divisions and enables seamless data transfer from field development teams to design engineers.

The software carries out economic assessments, visualizes the results, and automatically generates reports.

Safety and Efficiency

Earlier, scientists from the same research institute presented a proprietary software and analytics system designed to monitor the integrity of pipelines transporting both treated commercial oil and liquid hydrocarbons with low gas content.

If anomalies are detected, the system identifies the coordinates of the integrity breach. This makes it possible to significantly reduce environmental risks and cut the cost of responding to pipeline failures.

Rosneft says the technologies it is rolling out are aimed at strengthening the company’s technological leadership in Russia’s oil and gas sector.
