Russian Universities Test AI Lecture Translator for International Students
Timiryazev Academy and MGIMO University have tested Bilingvo, a simultaneous translation service that translates lectures into a student’s native language in real time.
According to its developers at Agropromtsifra, the service can improve students’ comprehension of course material by 20% to 35%. The impact is particularly noticeable during the first year of study, considered the most difficult for international students: academic Russian can be challenging even for those who speak conversational Russian well.
Timiryazev Academy tested the platform on lectures translated into English, French and Chinese. Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Svetlana Zakharova said the trial confirmed the service’s effectiveness in translating complex terminology.
Zakharova said the service would become a regular part of life at the academy following the trial. MGIMO tested the platform at conferences but did not introduce it into the learning process, saying students should be able to understand their instructors directly.
