The project was also carried out with researchers from MIET, the Moscow Center for Advanced Studies, the MIEM Higher School of Economics, MISIS, Sungkyunkwan University in South Korea, and the Russian Quantum Center.

Polarization is a property of light that makes it possible to encode additional information in a signal and increase the bandwidth of data transmission channels. The prototype developed by the researchers makes it possible to control the polarization state by using the phase state of the material through which the light passes.

According to the researchers, after further development the device will outperform existing solutions based on mechanical rotation and will find applications in optical circuits, particularly in transceivers that convert electrical signals into optical ones and are used in high-speed communications and computing.

The study was published in the journal Light: Advanced Manufacturing.
