St. Petersburg Researchers Develop ECG Module for Smartwatches
The research team is now seeking patent protection for the device.

Researchers at Saint Petersburg Electrotechnical University "LETI" have developed a miniature electrocardiogram (ECG) module that records the heart's electrical activity. According to the developers, the chip is more compact than any comparable Russian-designed device and is small enough to be integrated into smartwatches and fitness bands.
The ECG module currently exists as a single prototype. It has successfully completed laboratory testing, and the research team is in the process of obtaining a patent. If the technology successfully completes the remaining stages of commercialization, everyday wearable devices could evolve from simple electronic accessories into personal health monitoring assistants.
