T2 Rolls Out 5G Networks in Moscow and St. Petersburg Metros
Peak Data Transfer Speeds Reach 635 Mbps.
T2 has brought 5G connectivity to the Moscow and St. Petersburg metro systems. In the capital, the new networks are available at 172 stations, while the subway in the country’s second-largest city has 5G at 24 stations. Peak data transfer speeds reach 635 Mbps.
T2 considers metro systems one of the key types of locations for 5G development. Underground transit networks have complex architectures and large concentrations of subscribers. These conditions are considered well suited for testing the reliability of technologies in real-world operation. That is why, in such environments, actual speeds available to subscribers under heavy network loads matter more than laboratory measurements.
“The metro is a unique environment where millions of people spend time every day. Providing high speeds and stable coverage along lines in enclosed spaces with extremely high subscriber density is no easy task. But the T2 team has turned users’ daily underground commute into a zone of digital comfort,” said Alexey Dmitriev, deputy CEO for technical infrastructure at T2.
