Water Tariffs in Moscow Region Now Checked With AI
The Moscow Region Committee on Prices and Tariffs has introduced artificial intelligence into the calculation and review of water supply and sanitation tariffs.
The regional press service reported the move. Each year, the Committee sets more than 750 tariffs for 372 resource-supplying organizations in the region.
Previously, a significant share of experts' time was consumed by routine work: reviewing scans, cross-checking data, and requesting missing documents. Now artificial intelligence handles the initial processing — recognizing scans and photos before an application reaches an expert, reading blurred images and handwritten notes, and flagging discrepancies and missing mandatory attachments.
"The introduction of artificial intelligence is an important step in the digitalization of tariff regulation. We are handing over routine mechanical work to the machine: document recognition, initial data verification, and completeness checks. This helps eliminate errors in initial processing and leaves experts with what matters most — the actual expert work of assessing and modeling tariffs," said Oleg Tolmachev, head of the Moscow Region Committee on Prices and Tariffs.
