Russian Miners Use VR to Hunt for Workplace Risks
In a digital twin of a processing plant, employees learn to spot hazards and respond to them correctly.

Employees at the Lebedinsky Mining and Processing Plant are being trained with VR technology to identify risks and log them on the company’s occupational health and industrial safety portal.
At the plant’s training center, workers enter a virtual production floor—a digital twin of the beneficiation plant—programmed with numerous simulated emergency scenarios.
According to Alik Vishnikin, a lead specialist at Lebedinsky GOK, the goal of the training is not only to strengthen employees’ ability to detect and report risks through the safety portal, but also to ensure they respond appropriately.
Experienced Workers
Previously, all plant employees completed in-person training on the company’s risk management system. This year, they have moved on to an additional course using VR headsets. The program targets experienced staff—those who already identify and register risks within their divisions.
So far, 50 employees at Lebedinsky GOK have completed the VR-based course. Another 150 specialists are expected to undergo training by the end of the year.
