A Digital Scientist Is Running Experiments in Russia
By automating routine tasks, the digital assistant allows researchers to focus on higher-level intellectual work.
Specialists at Innopolis University have developed two high-tech projects for scientific research, according to Rifkat Minnikhanov, president of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Tatarstan, speaking at a meeting of the regional Ministry of Digital Development.
One project is a large multimodal model for chemistry that can predict the outcomes of chemical reactions with high accuracy and analyze mass spectra. The technology simplifies scientific discovery and could be used in the development of new materials and pharmaceuticals.
An AI Scientist and a Predictive Model
Another project is an intelligent AI agent designed to automate scientific research. The digital assistant can independently plan and conduct experiments, collect data, and analyze results, enabling researchers to concentrate on more critical tasks.
Funding for the projects was provided through the federal Artificial Intelligence program. In total, grants for fundamental AI research were awarded to seven universities, including the Higher School of Economics, the Institute for System Programming of the Russian Academy of Sciences, ITMO University, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, the Skolkovo Institute of Science and Technology, and Lomonosov Moscow State University. Advanced developments by Russian researchers are being supported at the federal level.
