Russia to Let Travelers Check Into Hotels via the MAX Messenger

The Russian Ministry of Economic Development has drafted a regulation that would allow hotel guests to check in using the national messenger app MAX, relying on the country’s Unified Biometric System. The measure could roll out as soon as March 2026.

According to the draft resolution, travelers will be able to provide passport data through the MAX messenger to complete the check-in process. Officials believe the move will make hotel services more accessible and convenient for tourists.

The explanatory note states that only hotels connected to the Unified Biometric System will be able to offer this option. The regulation is scheduled to take effect on March 1, 2026, and remain valid until March 1, 2032.

The national messenger is steadily gaining advantages over foreign alternatives. Previously, it was reported that MAX users can already pay for purchases directly through the app using the Faster Payments System. The platform also allows users to check their balance and review transaction history without switching to other services.
