Russia Rolls Out AI System to Read License Plates in Real Time
A neural network developed by NtechLab, a tech partner of state corporation Rostec, promises over 99% accuracy in spotting cars across city streets.

Russian AI company NtechLab is deploying a video analytics system to identify vehicle license plates on the roads of Obninsk, a city southwest of Moscow. The technology, built on neural networks, processes live video feeds from surveillance cameras to monitor traffic and strengthen public safety.
Smarter Cities, Faster Searches
The system’s algorithms can recognize license plates from both civilian and emergency vehicles in real time, allowing police and city services to instantly locate stolen cars or those involved in accidents. With accuracy exceeding 99 percent, the software can scan, detect, and classify vehicles faster than any human operator.
NtechLab’s technology is already in use in the Vladimir and Krasnodar regions, where it has proven effective in monitoring traffic and supporting law enforcement. With its near-perfect accuracy and real-time data processing, the system is part of a broader global shift toward AI-powered “smart city” infrastructure designed to make urban life safer and more efficient.
