Impuls Atom Plant Patents Automated Tool-Changing System for Metal-Cutting Machine Tools
The new system stands out from existing alternatives for its high degree of digitalization.

The Impuls Atom plant in Penza has patented its own development: an intelligent system for automatically changing tools on metal-cutting machine tools. In effect, it can serve as a robotic assistant on the production floor. The system differs from existing alternatives in its high degree of digitalization.
The system consists of several modules. One is designed to identify the moment of inertia. Using drive-current feedback signals and data from the control program, it determines the current moment of inertia of rotating components in real time. It then automatically adjusts acceleration, steady-state speed, and deceleration parameters while preventing slippage and overloads. Two other modules handle tool positioning and the preliminary preparation of the tools required for the operation.
