AI Monitors Meal Quality in Moscow Region Social Facilities

Artificial intelligence is enhancing transparency in social institution catering by detecting hundreds of violations since January and enabling rapid corrective action.
In the Moscow Region, an AI‑driven system is now overseeing meal quality across 133 social institutions, according to the regional Ministry of State Administration, IT and Communications. Staff members photograph food trays daily and upload the images to a dedicated app. A neural network then analyzes each photo against the officially approved menu, flagging potential discrepancies for human moderators to verify. Confirmed violations trigger immediate remedial measures.
Since January, the system has processed 65,000 images, uncovering and helping to correct 254 instances of non‑compliance. Officials credit this digital oversight with significantly boosting the transparency of meal monitoring and speeding up responses to deviations from established standards.

This deployment of AI in the social sphere marks a key step in the region’s broader digital‑government strategy, aimed at improving citizens’ quality of life. Early results suggest fewer complaints and greater accountability among all stakeholders. Looking ahead, officials plan to expand similar AI tools to other areas of social support, optimizing public services and raising overall welfare for the region’s inhabitants.
