Russian Banks Now Require AI Skills from New Hires

Mastering artificial intelligence tools is becoming a non-negotiable for landing a job in Russia’s financial sector.
Russian banks are overhauling their hiring strategies, making AI literacy a baseline requirement even for entry-level roles. Candidates are now expected to use digital tools effectively, while tech specialists and analysts must demonstrate hands-on experience with artificial intelligence.
Developers, in particular, are expected not only to work with off-the-shelf neural network solutions, but also to understand algorithmic principles and show experience building custom AI models.
Those applying for non-technical roles are encouraged to complete basic training in neural network tools. Many banks are offering in-house education to help onboard new employees lacking AI experience.
Experts say this trend is expanding beyond banking.
In 2025, more than 80% of job postings at leading banks in Russia have included AI-related requirements. These roles command salaries 25–30% higher than those that don’t demand such skills — and the demand keeps growing.
