Krasnoyarsk Region Approves 82 Promising AI Use Cases

In the near future, AI projects are expected to reach all major areas of life in the region, while Krasnoyarsk Region has every chance of becoming a testing ground for new projects before they are rolled out nationwide.

A list of projects for deploying artificial intelligence technologies has been approved in Krasnoyarsk Region. According to the regional Ministry of Digital Development, 23 project teams from regional government agencies examined more than 100 AI use cases and selected the 82 most promising. They were divided into five areas: document analytics, a “single information window” for residents and businesses, “safe and smart city,” sector-specific projects and the use of AI in the real economy. The number of projects varies by category: the Safe and Smart City group, for example, includes 13 use cases, while the sector-specific group includes 32.

The region is thus building a portfolio of AI projects intended to span public administration, social services, municipal operations and the economy. Krasnoyarsk Region could become a major testing ground for Russian computer vision, data analytics, intelligent document processing and decision-support systems. Successful projects could subsequently be deployed in other Russian regions.

AI Will Make Communities Safer

Krasnoyarsk Region is now drawing up a plan for developing its AI tools. The next step is to turn the 82 selected use cases into concrete projects with designated implementers, budgets, performance metrics and deployment timelines. The most promising areas appear to be AI for public administration, smart city applications and computer vision, sector-specific AI systems, and AI for business and industry. These areas will not only help create sustained demand for Russian AI products, both federal and regional, but also make everyday life safer and more convenient. Some initiatives are already under development. The region, for example, is expanding its Bezopasny gorod (Safe City) system: more than 10,000 cameras are connected to it, and their data is expected eventually to be used to assess road surfaces, traffic signs and other infrastructure elements.

Some Russian products, including video analytics platforms, systems for processing public requests and managing urban infrastructure, and sector-specific decision-support systems, could eventually be offered to countries of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU).

No Digital Transformation Without AI

In 2025, the Russian government established the AI Development Center. Its responsibilities include systematizing AI adoption, collecting effective solutions and organizing their rollout across federal agencies and regions. By the fall, 149 verified AI solutions from 26 Russian regions had been announced. The government also introduced AI into its system for monitoring national projects and government programs: the model analyzes activities and performance indicators and maps them against national goals. Moreover, the availability of AI tools became a factor in the approval of regional digital transformation programs.

The year 2026 has already become one of widespread adoption of regional AI practices. Fifty-five regions submitted about 350 of their projects to the Tsifrovoy region (Digital Region) platform, while the number of published use cases exceeded 430. Krasnoyarsk Region, meanwhile, has created its own AI governance framework, establishing a dedicated interagency commission for the purpose. The current project list is one of the first practical results of its work.

The More Value, the Bigger the Market

For now, the central question is how many of these use cases will actually make it into widespread real-world operation and demonstrate measurable results: lower costs and shorter timelines, higher-quality public services, faster response times or improved business performance. This is precisely the approach the federal government is now promoting: digital spending should be tied to concrete outcomes, rather than to the mere fact that a technology has been deployed. If the region does become a testing ground for Russian AI products as envisioned, a major new market for government and sector-specific contracts could quickly take shape across the country.

At present, the region is a customer for the computing capacity needed to carry out large-scale plans to digitalize public administration and every sector of the economy. The goal is to deploy digital technologies in every field and at every enterprise so that they become a powerful driver of the region’s development as a whole
