Funds can be collected in local currency at exchange points across all regions of these countries. The service is aimed at travelers who do not have bank cards or accounts abroad. Transfers can be made from any Russian bank card, e-wallet, or an MTS subscriber account, in rubles with automatic conversion into local currency. Funds become available within 10 minutes. The minimum transfer amount is 500 rubles ($~5), while the maximum is 400,000 rubles ($~4,300).

“These transfers make travel significantly easier for Russians, who no longer need to worry about having enough cash on hand during their trips,” said Kirill Palchun, head of MTS’s Payments and Transfers cluster.

Users can log into the app using a phone number from any Russian mobile operator. MTS subscribers can send funds even with a negative balance, as long as they are connected to the internet.

In addition, the Moy MTS app allows tourists to pay for purchases using national QR codes linked to Russian bank cards, similar to domestic QR-based payments. This feature is currently available in around 10 countries, including Thailand, Turkey, and Vietnam.
