Russian telecom operator MTS and China Mobile have agreed to provide users with shared internet traffic, according to TASS. The companies are setting up a cross-border connection between Russia and China in the Far East, covering Primorsky Krai and the Suifenhe region. As a result, MTS users in Siberia and the Far East will gain near-latency-free access to global internet resources via Hong Kong. The partnership is expected to lay the groundwork for expanding internet traffic flows toward Asia in the coming years.

International Talks

The new connection has been deployed about 200 kilometers from Vladivostok. It uses DWDM equipment (48×200G), enabling data transmission over two optical fibers across 48 channels, each with speeds of up to 200 Gbps. Over the next three years, MTS plans to increase the share of traffic routed through eastern gateways to 20 percent of all international content on its network.
