Russian Filmmakers Tackle AI, Grief, and Identity in New Sci-Fi Drama

A new film by producer Ruben Dishdishyan and writer Alexander Tsypkin explores the ethical boundaries of artificial intelligence—and its power to reshape human connection.
Russian producer Ruben Dishdishyan and writer Alexander Tsypkin are developing a feature film that dives into the emotional and ethical implications of artificial intelligence. The story centers on a man who, after losing his beloved wife, turns to advanced technology to digitally reconstruct her personality.
Speaking to TASS, Dishdishyan described the project as both a creative experiment and a reflection on the rapid acceleration of AI development. He said,
The film joins a growing wave of cinema projects that integrate digital technologies not just as storytelling devices but as fundamental themes. Rather than replacing art with algorithms, the filmmakers aim to show how digital tools can extend the reach of creative storytelling while raising profound questions about identity, loss, and the limits of technological empathy.
