Russian School Students to Begin Studying Artificial Intelligence Starting September 1

Beginning with the new academic year, Russian schools will introduce a specialized “Artificial Intelligence” track, Education Minister Sergei Kravtsov announced.

The new subject area will become part of the advanced computer-science curriculum. Officials said the decision to introduce the program was driven by strong interest generated through the All-Russian School Olympiad.

“As an example, I can mention the new ‘Artificial Intelligence’ track that we added to the informatics olympiad. It proved to be so in-demand and relevant that beginning with the 2026–27 academic year it will be incorporated into the school curriculum as part of advanced subject study,” Kravtsov said.

The initiative was also backed by Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev, who in late April supported the inclusion of AI courses in school programs so that, at some point, technology would not “outsmart” people.
