School and College Students in St. Petersburg Build a Satellite Model
St. Petersburg is hosting an open professional skills championship in the Space Systems Engineering category. Participants are building and testing a small-satellite model.

The competition brings together university and college students as well as school students. Contestants design some of the components themselves, print them on 3D printers or cut them from wood with a laser, and also write the software code.
“This is a very important and useful step toward promoting the space industry as a whole and developing the next generation of professionals. The models are very close to real spacecraft, allowing everyone involved to get hands-on experience with the manufacturing process,” said Mikhail Eprintsev, an expert at the open professional skills championship in the Space Systems Engineering category, senior lecturer at the State University of Aerospace Instrumentation and head of its Small Spacecraft Laboratory.
Experts assess not only the models but also how contestants organize their workstations and comply with occupational safety requirements. The championship is supported by Roscosmos, and finalists will have an opportunity to intern at companies in the space industry.
