Vladivostok Technical College Expands from Skilled Trades to Creative Industries
A vocational college in Vladivostok has opened nine modern training workshops over the past two years and will launch a new creative industries program this September.
Formerly known as the Regional Technical College, the institution spent five decades training welders and machinists. Its transformation was supported by Russia's Ministry for the Development of the Far East and Arctic and the Corporation for the Development of the Far East and the Arctic (KRDV). The modernization began with a robotic welding workshop – a field the college had not previously offered. Just two years later, one of its students won first place in the regional stage of the Professionals skills championship and finished fifth nationwide. The college has since opened eight additional workshops focused on urban infrastructure, including additive manufacturing for construction, housing and utilities automation, water supply and wastewater systems, and landscape construction.
This autumn, the campus at 13 Oktyabrskaya Street will introduce an entirely new area of study dedicated to creative industries, including sound recording, graphic design, animation, filmmaking, game development, and advertising. The college plans to admit 175 students to state-funded places in the inaugural intake.
Similar training workshops are being established across vocational colleges throughout Russia's Far East. More than 440 are already in operation, and the number is expected to reach 600 by 2030.
