Sberbank Deploys More Than 700 AI Initiatives, Generating Over $6 Billion in Value
Artificial intelligence is delivering increasingly significant financial returns for Russian banks, with Sberbank remaining one of the sector's leading adopters, according to the AI Financier report published by the SberUniversity School of Finance.

Other major Russian financial institutions are also reporting measurable returns from AI. At VTB, AI technologies currently generate around 15 billion rubles (about $190 million) in annual value, with the bank aiming to increase that figure to 50 billion rubles (approximately $630 million) over the next two years. T-Bank estimates that AI contributes tens of billions of rubles annually to its operational processes, while Alfa-Bank says its robotic process automation systems perform about 3.5 million operations each month—equivalent to the workload of roughly 870 employees.
According to the Bank of Russia, 20% of financial market participants use AI on a permanent basis, another 15% are running pilot projects, and 61% are considering deploying generative AI models.
