Polymer Composites Center Develops Smart Bus Shelter for Connected Cities
The structure is designed for a service life of up to 25 years.
Saransk-based Polymer Composites Center has developed a new bus shelter built with composite materials to improve durability. With proper maintenance, the structure is designed to remain in service for up to 25 years. It is also engineered for integration into smart city infrastructure. The shelter can be equipped with electronic passenger information displays, video surveillance, Wi-Fi, USB and USB-C charging ports for mobile devices, an emergency call button, infrared heaters, and solar panels.
"We aim to develop solutions that address not only industry needs but also the everyday needs of communities. Our new bus shelter demonstrates how advanced composite materials can improve the urban environment by making it more comfortable, functional, and durable. Equally important, the design can be easily adapted to the requirements of individual regions or municipalities," said Sergey Petrunin, CEO of Polymer Composites Center.
