John Aggrey: Ghana Is Interested in Expanding Technology Cooperation With Russia
The 2nd Global Digital Forum has concluded in Moscow. Experts from different countries discussed artificial intelligence, cybersecurity, and access to digital services.

John Aggrey, Director General of the Ghana-Russia Cooperation Center, spoke to the IT Russia media platform about how these areas are developing in Ghana and the prospects they offer for cooperation with other countries.
– My main goal is to build relations between Russia and Ghana and develop cooperation across all areas, including cybersecurity.
Until recently, ties between our countries were not sufficiently developed, but discussions have recently begun about transferring Russian technology to Ghana. In addition, Ghana has expressed interest in joining BRICS. This creates opportunities to strengthen our ties and develop a long-term partnership. In particular, we are interested in cooperation in cybersecurity, as well as collaboration between our police and border services.
We want to expand cooperation with Russia and see your country as a preferred partner. At present, technological cooperation between our countries remains limited. That is why we need platforms such as the Global Digital Forum, where we can meet and exchange ideas. I would also propose holding a Russian-Ghanaian summit on information and communications technology in the future. It would be the first event of its kind, bringing together experts from our two countries.
Our goal is to provide internet access throughout Ghana within the next ten years, so that every child in every region of the country can get online. We also want to achieve digital sovereignty. To do that, we need to develop local internet infrastructure, create conditions for domestic internet service providers to operate, and cooperate with foreign companies.
This would also create new opportunities for Russian IT companies. We are open for business and would be glad to welcome Russian companies to Ghana. Our country could serve as a base for them to expand into other African markets.”
