Businesses Are Set to Adapt Accounting Systems for the Digital Ruble

Companies that accept payments from individuals will be required to bring their ERP systems into compliance with new digital-ruble requirements. The IBS Group of Companies is offering to handle the adaptation.

In practice, the requirement involves more than simply complying with the law. Companies will need to reconfigure payment processes, data exchanges with banks and counterparties, and the way transactions are recorded in their accounting systems. Without these changes, payments could fail. Based on IBS’s experience, adapting the systems takes at least one month, depending on the number of accounting systems involved and the scope of the processes.

The requirement will be introduced in stages. Starting September 1, 2026, it will apply to companies with more than 120 million rubles ($1.5 million) in revenue in the previous year. Starting September 1, 2027, the threshold will fall to 30 million rubles ($375,000). For other organizations, using the digital ruble – the third form of Russia’s national currency, existing as noncash funds in digital accounts within the Bank of Russia’s system – will remain voluntary.

“Organizations covered by the new rules need to properly prepare their ERP systems and integrations to avoid disruptions in payments and accounting,” said Dmitry Ivitsky, deputy director of IBS’s outsourcing and services division.
