Moscow Game Developers Gain Access to the CIS’s Most Advanced Motion Capture Studio
The Moscow Video Game and Animation Cluster has opened the Commonwealth of Independent States’ most advanced motion capture studio with support from the city’s Department of Culture.

The motion capture studio features 60 OptiTrack cameras, six sets of motion capture gloves for recording hand and finger movements, and six head-mounted systems for capturing facial expressions. The facility can simultaneously record multiple performers, capturing full-body movement, hand motions, and subtle facial expressions, while streaming the data to Unreal Engine in real time. Cluster residents can use the studio through an outsourcing model, giving them access to high-end production capabilities without investing in expensive equipment or building their own capture facilities.
One of the studio’s showcase projects is TSAREVNA. Age of Tales, for which the choreography of Bolshoi Theatre principal ballerina Alena Kovaleva was digitized. Her recorded movements became the basis for the main character’s animation and combat system.
