Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom plans to introduce artificial intelligence technologies into the operations of the Federal Customs Service as part of a large-scale modernization project due for completion by 2028. The work will be carried out by AT Consulting, a Rosatom subsidiary. The company is expected to upgrade hardware infrastructure and integrate neural-network tools into the agency’s core operational processes. The project is being implemented under a directive issued by the Russian government.

One of the central goals will be to migrate the customs service’s Unified Automated Information System to domestically developed technologies.

“The biggest advantage here is not even the fashionable term ‘neural networks,’ but the fact that the Federal Customs Service is finally taking the modernization of its digital infrastructure seriously. That could significantly reduce the number of errors and speed up customs procedures, which would benefit both businesses and ordinary Russians,” said Nikita Danyuk, a member of Russia’s Civic Chamber.

The new technologies are expected to reduce the number of border violations and improve forecasting of traffic loads at border checkpoints.
