Rosatom has launched a science and technology cluster for nuclear instrumentation. It will develop detectors for radiation monitoring, personal dosimetry, medicine and scientific research. The cluster was established at the Specialized Research Institute of Instrumentation. According to the developers, pooling resources at a single site will significantly reduce development costs.

The cost reductions are expected to apply not only to individual safety devices but also to equipment for nuclear power plants being built in Russia and abroad. Andrey Butko, CEO of Rosatom Automated Control Systems, said the facility is designed to produce up to 1,500 detectors and 10,000 standardized electronic units a year.

The project was implemented with support from the Industrial Development Fund. Its director, Roman Petrutsa, said the fund provided the Specialized Research Institute of Instrumentation with a 200 million ruble ($2.3 million) preferential loan under the Components program.
