AI-Powered Video Analytics Is Attracting Investment in Russia
AI-based video analytics emerged last year as one of the fastest-growing technology segments in Russia.
In 2025, Russian companies and the public sector significantly increased investment in AI-powered video analytics. The segment became one of the most dynamic areas of corporate digitalization, outpacing the Internet of Things and cloud services in growth rates.
According to analysts, artificial intelligence is most commonly used in transport, logistics, the fuel and energy sector, and retail. Video surveillance is no longer limited to security purposes — it is increasingly applied to data analysis, cost optimization, and operational management. In retail, video analytics is used to monitor staff performance, analyze customer behavior, and prevent losses.
Yamal Emerges as a Leader
Against the nationwide trend, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug recorded the strongest growth in video analytics investment in the Urals and Siberia last year. Compared with 2024, investment volumes in the region rose 2.7-fold.
Cameras equipped with machine-vision capabilities are increasingly becoming the technological standard. The most in-demand service in the region has been passenger-flow monitoring, which makes it possible to track public transport movement, route congestion, and passenger behavior.
Experts point to a broader nationwide shift: AI-driven video analytics is steadily moving from pilot projects into everyday use and is being adopted especially quickly in regions with vast territories and challenging operating conditions.
