Developers in Novosibirsk have created an application that determines the geometric parameters of road surfaces. The project, titled Geoinformatsionnaya Sistema s Elementami Sistemy Avtomatizirovannogo Proyektirovaniya (Geographic Information System With Elements of Computer-Aided Design), significantly speeds up and simplifies the creation of a road passport, the Novosibirsk Region Ministry of Transport and Road Facilities said.

Development of the application began in November 2024. As of now, it can process laser scanning data and analyze the road base, pavement layers, and embankment slopes.

A System That Eliminates Errors

The system automatically collects and analyzes road parameters, removing the human factor from the process. As a result, the risk of errors in road passports and design documentation is effectively reduced to zero.

A research team at Novosibirsk State University has already moved on to the second phase of the project. By November 2026, the software is expected to be able to determine the geometric parameters of a road’s longitudinal and transverse profiles, as well as identify defects.

Earlier, IT Russia reported that researchers at Perm Polytechnic University had trained a neural network to design durable roads even in swampy terrain and permafrost, achieving an accuracy of 90.76%.
