MIPT to Launch Ethical Hacking Degree Program in Russia

A new bachelor’s track will train students to find vulnerabilities and build defenses in complex digital and cyber-physical systems.

The Higher School of Software Engineering at MIPT, in partnership with Positive Technologies, is opening enrollment for a new program titled “Development of Cybersecurity Systems and Reengineering of Cyber-Physical Systems.” A core discipline will be reverse engineering – the analysis of software and hardware to understand how they work.

Students will be able to choose their focus area. Some will specialize in developing cybersecurity software, while others will concentrate on identifying vulnerabilities across a wide range of targets, from code to physical chips and microelectronics.

White Hat Hackers

Cybersecurity professionals often deal with closed systems that lack source code or documentation. Reverse engineering techniques make it possible to break such systems down, understand their logic and design robust protection.

This is particularly important for cyber-physical systems – those that control autonomous vehicles, industrial robots, smart grids and medical devices. Any security flaw in such systems can have real-world consequences.

Hands-On Training From Day One

Students will not rely on theory alone. From their first semester, they will work on real-world tasks. Classes will be taught by practicing experts from Positive Technologies, who routinely identify vulnerabilities in live systems. A dedicated classroom and laboratory are being set up at the company, with all required equipment already in place.

Admissions will open this summer, with 36 places available within the Software Engineering track. In addition to standard entrance exams, applicants will undergo interviews to assess their suitability and interest in ethical hacking.
