Kazan has rolled out intelligent video analytics developed by Russian company Ntechlab, according to the developer’s press service.

The AI-powered system is designed to search for missing people and criminal suspects. Its facial recognition technology operates with near-perfect accuracy and is also used to help prevent offenses.

As Ntechlab CEO Aleksey Paramarchuk said, the neural network analyzes data from dozens of cameras installed at metro entrances and in underground passages, and can identify a person from an image within minutes. That capability helps investigators solve crimes and track the routes taken by missing individuals.

Identifying by Face or Silhouette

The technology is already in use across 40 Russian regions and has had a measurable impact on crime reduction. In Yamal, for example, crime fell by 18 percent over the course of a year. More than 90 percent of crimes committed in public places are now solved quickly.

Officials in Tatarstan say safety is a top priority for a city that welcomes millions of tourists every year, and the use of AI-driven video analytics will continue to expand.

Ntechlab says it is continuing to refine the technology, with smart cameras soon expected to identify individuals by their silhouette.
