“Diamond” Sovereignty

ALROSA, the world’s largest diamond mining company, has completed its full transition to Russian software, while equipment based on domestic technologies now accounts for 98% of its fleet.

ALROSA PJSC ranks first worldwide in diamond production and holds half of the planet’s explored diamond reserves. It is the only vertically integrated player spanning the entire value chain, from geological exploration to jewelry. The company launched its large-scale import-substitution program in 2019, with its insourcing company ALROSA IT becoming the main center of expertise for digital transformation and the replacement of foreign software. In 2021, ALROSA launched its Digital Transformation Strategy, aimed at eliminating foreign software entirely and moving mining management to modern Russian technologies.

From Replacing Software to Specialized Mining Technology

The company first migrated its core corporate management systems to Russian products: 1C:Enterprise and 1C:Holding Management from 1C, while HR management moved to the BOSS-Kadrovik platform.

A key step came in 2022 with the launch of the first phase of migration away from Microsoft technologies. Electronic document management moved to Directum RX with the Tantor database management system from Tantor Labs, while industrial safety monitoring was automated using VizorLabs video analytics from VizorLabs LLC, part of SATEL Group.

In 2023 and 2024, the focus shifted to specialized production technologies. The company completed 79 IT projects, concentrating on systems designed specifically for mining. Geological modeling and mine planning moved to the Maynfreym (Mineframe) system from Mineframe Laboratory LLC, while equipment monitoring shifted to Tsifra. Dispetcher (Zyfra Dispatcher), an IoT platform from Zyfra Group. Business process management was assigned to the Citeck ECOS platform from Citeck LLC, database management to ADB products from Arenadata, and business analytics to Forsayt. Analiticheskaya platforma (Foresight. Analytics Platform) from Foresight LLC.

Supporting regional developers became a separate priority: 100 million rubles (about $1.2 million) was invested in specialized IT products developed by Yakut startups for diamond-mining operations.

A Unified Process Environment

The turning point came in 2025, when ALROSA completed 81 IT projects and finished migrating its key business operations to Russian software. Investments of 4.8 billion rubles (more than $58 million) went toward replacing imported technology across every layer of management, from ERP systems and server operating systems to office software, communications and mobile services.

ALROSA completely phased out Deloitte products, replacing Industry Print Process Modeler with the Russian PIX Protsessy (PIX Processes) platform for business process modeling and management. All company divisions now operate within a unified process environment. In parallel, ALROSA completed the migration of its Directum RX corporate document management system from Microsoft SQL Server to TantorPostgres from Tantor Labs. This was one of the most complex stages in the company’s move away from Microsoft technologies.

Another large-scale project was the rollout of IVA MCU, a corporate communications system that replaced Skype for Business. The system now connects more than 12,000 employees across a vast territory stretching from Smolensk to Magadan. The project received the CNews Awards 2025 “Project of the Year” award in the import-substitution category.

From Import Substitution to In-House Innovation

Meanwhile, ALROSA is deploying technology developed in-house. The company has put TEP 2.1, a Russian production data management platform, into commercial operation. It brings together planning and performance analysis for mining equipment, haulage fleets and processing plants, laying the foundation for an end-to-end Mine-to-Mill digital model, from the mine to the processing plant.

The company has also achieved substantial results in machine vision. An innovative AI system has been deployed to search for new diamond deposits in areas with complex geology. Neural networks analyze large datasets, allowing exploration programs to be planned more precisely, with the economic impact estimated at hundreds of millions of rubles for each project. An AI system monitoring mine-truck loading increased productivity by 10% at the Udachny underground mine and Yubileyny open pit. The VG Karier (VG Quarry) intelligent mine haulage management system coordinates open-pit equipment and optimizes routes in real time, reducing downtime and improving mining efficiency.

The Antison (Anti-Drowsiness) system has also continued to be developed: more than 1,000 pieces of equipment are now fitted with cameras that detect driver fatigue and violations. Over 18 months, the number of risk events fell ninefold, while traffic accidents declined by 33%.

Information security is another area of focus. ALROSA completed the Platforma kiberustoychivosti (Cyber Resilience Platform) project and deployed a privileged access management, or PAM, system to oversee privileged access to critical systems. In 2026, the company launched the 1IDM system for managing user accounts and access rights, further strengthening its information security.

Digital Horizon 2027

Over six years, ALROSA has moved from replacing foreign software to creating its own digital products, reinforcing its position as a technological leader in the industry. The next stage is its 2025–2027 Digital Transformation Strategy, backed by investments of 10.8 billion rubles (more than $131 million) and comprising 100 initiatives across 13 areas. Together, they will span the entire diamond-mining process, from geological exploration to processing, relying exclusively on Russian IT infrastructure.

We systematically invest in Russian technological solutions that help improve operational efficiency. For ALROSA, digitalization is no longer an experiment but a core element of our operating model. New technologies are helping the company strengthen its industry leadership
